Owhaoko BD Trust has changed the permit conditions with regard to deer numbers shot. The new permit conditions are as follows:

• No limit on the number of Red shot.
• No shooting stags in velvet.
• No shooting of spikers at any time of the year.
• No more than 3 Sika hinds maybe taken per person at any time of the year.
• Only one 8 point Sika stag may be taken per person between 1 March- 31 May.

Te Piri Stream Drop Off

  • DOC Drop off point only.
  • You must cross river and camp & hunt on DOC side.
  • Steep scrub sides.
  • Pockets of native beech.
  • Good hunting up on (Whakamauru Tops/Paradise Valley).
  • Must have DOC Hunting Permit.
  • No hunting on private land. If you are caught on private land you will be prosecuted under the ‘Wild Animal Control Act” and could recieve up to $100,000 fine and seizer of hunting equipment.

Mangataramea Hut

Lower Ripia Hut

Te Matai Lands Trust Block

  • Mainly bush hunting.
  • Some clearings.
  • All Sika.
  • 4 bunk hut.
  • Gas & gas cooker.
  • Cultery & crockery.
  • Wood firebox.
  • Smaller block.

Hunting Conditions;

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.
  5. During the Summer months (Dec-Mar) there may be day fishermen fishing the Ripia river. If you wish to fish while in the block please contact us and we can book it for you.

Upper Ripia Hut

  • Mostly sika with odd red.
  • 4 bunk hut.
  • Gas & gas cooker.
  • Cultery & crockery.
  • Smaller Block.

  • Steep country but good access with ridges.
  • Mainly sika with the odd red.
  • 4 bunk hut.
  • Gas & gas cooker.
  • Cultery & crockery.
  • Amazing views.

Hunting Conditions;

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.

Upper Mohaka Hut

NOTE: Bring drinking water, no tank on hut water can be collected from Mohaka river.
