Makokomiko

Situated on the southern side of the Mangamingi Stream Te Whare Staff Quarters is one of the better huts of choice.

The Makokomiko block consists of some low lying river flats the climbs up to the Mokokomiko tops.

Mainly all open country with some pockets of native bush.

The Hut has two seperate rooms both with single bunk beds, Sleeping 4 people.

There is an internal flush toilet and seperate shower room. The hut runs a gas califont for hot water both shower and sink.

The hut also has a wood burner and an outdoor undercover kitchen with gas fridge. Equiped with solar panels there is LED lighting and a standalone BBQ.

Hunting Conditions:

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.

Mangamaire Hut

  • 4 bunk hut with everything in it
  • Block closed 20 December – 10 March & 1 June – 30 September yearly.

Northarm Hut

  • Hut has everything in it, just bring lighting.
  • Open grassy river flats.
  • Easy contour, native beech sides.
  • Some open beech forest.
  • Very nice Sika country.

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.
  5. This block is open year round.
  6. During summer months (Dec – Feb) Fishermen may be day fishing the North Arm Stream.

Mangaroa Hut

  • Big beech gullies.
  • Manuka faces.
  • Meatsafe.
  • Bivvy up in the gully next to native.
  • Some tracks and clearings

  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.
  5. This block is open year round.
  6. During the summer months (Dec – Feb) Fishermen may be day fishing the Mohaka River.

Footy Field Hut

East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Manuka faces/gullies.
  • Small open, grassy areas and river flats.
  • Good 4 bunk hut with everything in it. Just bring lighting.
  • Pots, Pans, Crockery, Cutlery, cooker and gas are provided in the hut.
  • Cableway across river to keep your boots dry.

  6. During the summer months (Dec – Feb) Fishermen may be day fishing the Mohaka River, if you wish to fish yourself we can book the stretch of water for you. However please contact our staff if you wish to fish, ensuring it is avaliable.
