Mangatainoka Heads Shelter

  • Good roar block with mature beech forest, lots of spurs and ridges for access around the area.
  • Big gullies and clearings.
  • 30 minutes walk from Mangatainoka hut.
  • Campsite with shelter for cooking.

Mangamaire Junction Campsite

Owhaoko BD Trust Land

  • Campsite only.
  • Excellent fishing
  • Rivers flats.
  • Large amount of area to hunt in surrounding public land, broken beech forest, semi scrubby underneath beech in places.
  • Great access to the Southern REZ wilderness area.
  • Hunting on DOC land only, permit required.
  • Block is closed for Hunting 20 Dec – 1 March & 1June – 30 Sept yearly.

 

Te Piri Stream Drop Off

  • DOC Drop off point only.
  • You must cross river and camp & hunt on DOC side.
  • Steep scrub sides.
  • Pockets of native beech.
  • Good hunting up on (Whakamauru Tops/Paradise Valley).
  • Must have DOC Hunting Permit.
  • No hunting on private land. If you are caught on private land you will be prosecuted under the ‘Wild Animal Control Act” and could recieve up to $100,000 fine and seizer of hunting equipment.

Tussock Saddle (Otore Saddle)

D.O.C Kaweka Hut

  • Good roar block.
  • Tussock flats to south.
  • Awesome open beech forest to the north of saddle, good network of spurs and ridges to get around.
  • Campsite with bivvy shelter for cooking.
