Makokomiko

Situated on the southern side of the Mangamingi Stream Te Whare Staff Quarters is one of the better huts of choice.

The Makokomiko block consists of some low lying river flats the climbs up to the Mokokomiko tops.

Mainly all open country with some pockets of native bush.

The Hut has two seperate rooms both with single bunk beds, Sleeping 4 people.

There is an internal flush toilet and seperate shower room. The hut runs a gas califont for hot water both shower and sink.

The hut also has a wood burner and an outdoor undercover kitchen with gas fridge. Equiped with solar panels there is LED lighting and a standalone BBQ.

Hunting Conditions:

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.

 

 

Mangamaire Hut

  • Beech gullies and pockets
  • Steep country
  • Good glassing country
  • 4 bunk hut with everything in it
  • Block closed 20 December – 10 March & 1 June – 30 September yearly.

Hunting Conditions:

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.

 

 

Te Piri Stream Drop Off

  • DOC Drop off point only.
  • You must cross river and camp & hunt on DOC side.
  • Steep scrub sides.
  • Pockets of native beech.
  • Good hunting up on (Whakamauru Tops/Paradise Valley).
  • Must have DOC Hunting Permit.
  • No hunting on private land. If you are caught on private land you will be prosecuted under the ‘Wild Animal Control Act” and could recieve up to $100,000 fine and seizer of hunting equipment.

Mangataramea Hut

  • Bush sidlings & gullies
  • 4 bunk hut.
  • Gas & gas cooker.
  • Cultery & crockery
  • Closed: 20 Dec – 1st March & 1 June – 30 Sept yearly.

Gold Creek Hut

  • Great fishing for Rainbows
  • 4-6 bunks.

  • Pots & Pans.
  • Good Family spot.
  • Gas Heater
  • Access DOC Bush Hunting Across River, permit required.
  • Closed 20 Dec – 10 March & 1 June – 30 Sept yearly.

  5. Please be aware during the summer months Dec – March there may be day fishermen fishing the Ngaruroro River on the block boundary. If you wish to fish also please contact our team to ensure fishing beats are available.
