Makokomiko

Situated on the southern side of the Mangamingi Stream Makokomiko Block is where Te Whare Ruruhau Lodge and the Te Whare Ruruhau Staff Quarters sit.

The Makokomiko block consists of some low lying river flats the climbs up to the Mokokomiko tops.

The rivers flats are open tussock land, the hills up to the tops at the back of the block consist pockets of native bush and manuka scrub.

The Staff quarters hut has two seperate rooms both with single bunk beds, Sleeping 4 people.

There is an internal flush toilet and seperate shower room. The hut runs a gas califont for hot water both shower and sink.

The hut also has a wood burner and an outdoor undercover kitchen with gas fridge. Equiped with solar panels there is LED lighting and a standalone BBQ.

The Staff Quarters is only available to be booked on its own during April. If you wish to book this block the rest of the year you must book the main lodge.

Te Whare Ruruhau Lodge also has 2 bedrooms sleeping four. We can accomodate up to 8 guests when using the Staff Quarters as well.

Hunting Conditions:

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.

 

 

Makorako Camp

East Taupo Lands Trust

  • Ecology Spur drop off point on Southern Boundary
  • Camp Site Only

  5. This block is open year round.

Patutu Hut

Kaimanawa Lands Trust

  • Good Roar Block
  • Open tops to the South of the hut falling away to steep beech forrest to the North towards the Waipakihi River.
  • Small 4 bunk hut
  • No water at the hut. There is a small stream 60m south from the hut that dries up in summer drought conditions.

Flight in from Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures base. Please note KAA is closed from May 1st – September 30th annually.

During April the base is only open Friday – Sun, Flights in and out must be on these days.

 

 

Mangamaire Hut

Owhaoko A Trust Block

  • Block closed 20 December – 10 March & 1 June – 30 September yearly.
