Mangaorangi Drop Off

East Taupo Lands Trust

  • Drop off for access to upper Jap Creek and Paemahi Plateau
  • Camp site is east from drop point inside the bush line(Heading towards Paemahi)
  • Some open tops before heading down into beech country(Sliver/red beech forest)
  • As stated above great access to the head of Jap creek(Ruatea Stream) exceptional country for Roar hunting – Lots of spurs running off main ridges to get around.
  • Signed track runs down into the head of the Oamaru river(steep terrain but very low hunting pressure)
  • DOC permit required

Jap Creek Drop Off

East Taupo Lands Trust

  • DOC access only
  • Camp site up stream 200m from drop point.
  • Great drop point for fly camping up Jap creek(Ruatea Stream) and further up Oamaru catchment.
  • Good bush hunting all year round- low lying beech forest(Sliver/Red beech)
  • Great fishing rainbow and brown trout
  • DOC permit required

Northarm Hut

  • Open valley (Tussock/Swamp) very easy modulated terrain on valley floor both sides of valley are enriched with beautiful open beech forests, great for winter hunting and summer hunting.
  • 4 bunk hut with fire place
  • LPG 2 burner gas cooker
  • Utensils supplied in hut – pots and pans etc.
  • Water nearby 50m in stream next to hut(Can dry up over a dry summer)
  • Meat safe
  • Area of Northarm is 1730ha

Mangaroa Hut

East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Good A frame hut with 4 bunks.
  • Hut has everything in it, just bring lighting.
  • Big beech gullies.
  • Manuka faces for glassing and long range hunting
  • Meatsafe.
  • Bivvy up in the gully west of the hut – great access of camp site for hunting the large beech pocket in the block.
  • Some tracks and clearings
  • This block is not eligible for the 10% frequent flyer, NZDA, Sika Foundation discount
  • Area of Mangaroa is 1400ha   – 770ha of this is beech forest
  • No fishing from 1st Nov – 1st April (if you would like to book fishing you will need to contact Helisika for fishing beats)

Footy Field Hut

East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Mainly Manuka/scrub on northern side of block with some pockets of beech including some grassy clearings in the stream west of hut, across the river surrounding the Te Kohai stream is a large beech face great for roar and all year round hunting.
  • Good 4 bunk hut with everything in it. Just bring lighting.
  • Pots, Pans, Crockery, Cutlery, cooker and gas are provided in the hut.
  • Cableway across river to keep your boots dry.
  • LPG 2 burner gas cooker
  • Area of Footy field is 900ha
  • No fishing from 1st Nov – 1st April (if you would like to book fishing you will need to contact Helisika for fishing beats)

Otupua Hut

East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Easy contour block, well tracked to the north and east. Otupua stream has large clearings with great vantage points for glassing early morning and evening animals, Roughly 750ha of nice beech forest behind hut for day time hunting and great stalking in the roar.
  • Good A frame hut with 4 bunks.
  • Hut has everything in it, just bring lighting.
  • Pots, pans, cutlery, crockery provided.
  • LPG 2 burner gas cooker
  • Fireplace
  • Area of Otupua block is 1030ha
  • This block is not eligible for the 10% frequent flyer, NZDA, Sika Foundation discount

Oamaru Private Hut

  • Oamaru Private block boundary has changed. Please make sure you know the new boundaries and stay within it at all times.
  • Large, new refurbished hut.
  • Kent firebox with wetback & shower.
  • Tussock flats.
  • Manuka faces.
  • Native beech surroundings.
  • Flat contour.
  • Great winter block.
  • Hut has pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, cooker and gas provided.
  • Area of Oamaru private is 1450ha
  • Mangapapa Bivvy drop off is available (southern end of block) – $1200 for Hughes 500 and $1550 for AS350
  • This block is not eligible for the 10% frequent flyer, NZDA, Sika Foundation discount
