Kaimanawa Lands Trust

  • Good summer hunting block with great areas of open top country for glassing.
  • Great Roar block with tops running into nice beech forest then down to Waipakihi river.
  • Open tops to the South of the hut falling away to steep beech forrest to the North towards the Waipakihi River.
  • Small 4 bunk hut
  • Pots an pans plus other utensils in hut
  • No water at the hut. There is a small stream 60m south from the hut that dries up in summer drought conditions.
  • Area of Patutu is 2030ha

Flight in from Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures base. Please note KAA is closed from May 1st – September 30th annually.

During April the base is only open Friday – Sun, Flights in and out must be on these days.

 

 

Cathedral Hut

Kaimanawa Lands Trust

  • Open Tussock country easy contour with lots of vantage spots for glassing, large areas of beech forests for bush stalking also.
  • Great for summer and roar hunting
  • Large area of beech forest out to the north west that runs down into the Waipakihi river
  • Awesome potential for fly camping from hut to explore the entire area of the block.
  • Small 4 bunk hut
  • LPG 2 burner gas cooker
  • Area of Cathedral is 2800ha

Only Open during April. Only available for parties to fly in on Sunday Afternoon out Friday Morning.

Jap Creek Drop Off

East Taupo Lands Trust

  • DOC access only
  • Camp site up stream 200m from drop point.
  • Great drop point for fly camping up Jap creek(Ruatea Stream) and further up Oamaru catchment.
  • Good bush hunting all year round- low lying beech forest(Sliver/Red beech)
  • Great fishing rainbow and brown trout
  • DOC permit required

Northarm Hut

​East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Open valley (Tussock/Swamp) very easy modulated terrain on valley floor both sides of valley are enriched with beautiful open beech forests, great for winter hunting and summer hunting.
  • 4 bunk hut with fire place
  • LPG 2 burner gas cooker
  • Utensils supplied in hut – pots and pans etc.
  • Water nearby 50m in stream next to hut(Can dry up over a dry summer)
  • Meat safe
  • Area of Northarm is 1730ha

Hunting Conditions:

  1. Maximum of one deer per person plus one per party. (Example: 3 hunters – maximum 4 deer)
  2. DOC hunting permits are required if hunting on adjoining DOC land.
  3. No shooting stags in velvet.
  4. No night shooting or spot lighting or use of night vision equipment, infra-red and or heat detecting devices.
  5. This block is open year round.
  6. During summer months (Dec – Feb) Fishermen may be day fishing the North Arm Stream.

Oamaru Private Hut

East Taupo Lands Trust Block

  • Oamaru Private block boundary has changed. Please make sure you know the new boundaries and stay within it at all times.
  • Large, new refurbished hut.
  • Kent firebox with wetback & shower.
  • Tussock flats.
  • Manuka faces.
  • Native beech surroundings.
  • Flat contour.
  • Great winter block.
  • Hut has pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, cooker and gas provided.
  • Area of Oamaru private is 1450ha
  • Mangapapa Bivvy drop off is available (southern end of block) – $1200 for Hughes 500 and $1550 for AS350
  • This block is not eligible for the 10% frequent flyer, NZDA, Sika Foundation discount

Hunting Conditions:

  • Bush terraces and tussock flats.
  • 12 bunk hut.
  • Good fishing for brown trout.
  • Good winter hunting area.
  • Suits family parties for summer getaways.
  • Good access to Kaipo Stream & Jap Creek
  • Make sure you know your boundaries – If you are caught on surrounding private land you will be prosecuted under the “Wild Animal Control Act” up tp $100,000 fine and seizure of hunting equipment.
  • This block is not eligible for the 10% frequent flyer, NZDA, Sika Foundation discount

Otutu DOC Hut

D.O.C Kaweka Hut

  • Open tops out to the north and western side of Manson area. Areas of broken faces due south of hut very good for glassing and long distance hunting, as well as great mountain beech areas for day stalking all around hut.
  • 6 bunk hut.
  • Wood firebox.

Rocks Ahead Hut

  • Moderate – steep bush sides.
  • Good fishing for big rainbows.
  • Swingbridges.
  • Open fireplace.
  • Mainly sika with odd red deer
  • 2 hours tramp to open tops.

Omar Bivvy

  • Native bush.
  • Good fishing with big Rainbows.
  • Open fire.
  • Small 3 bunk bivvy.
  • Good hunting for the winter months with deer living lower than summer grounds up top.
